About the programme
The Master’s Degree in Biotechnology and Medical Biology offers the possibility to study in the highly-stimulating and strongly-international environment of San Raffaele campus where the University, the Hospital and Research Institute work together for a worldwide recognized research of excellence.
Thanks to the integration between laboratory activities and clinical research, and the presence of cutting-edge technological platforms, San Raffaele is a leader in many areas of biomedical research: from neuroscience to oncology, from genetics to immunology and infectious diseases, up to cell and gene therapies and this is exactly where our MSc students attend their practical activities.
Thanks to our student-centred teaching approach conducted in the research laboratories of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, our students are trained to be competitive researchers equipped with an in-depth knowledge of the most advanced biotechnological applications together with specialist skillsets and individual critical and analytical abilities.
The unique research environment of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute provides students with the most stimulating and interdisciplinary conditions to study and conduct research as it promotes encounters of people and massive flows of ideas.
During the second year of their studies, students will mainly be focusing on their thesis project and will be working on a specific project within one of San Raffaele research Institute or, if they wish so, even abroad.Graduates from this MSc can then decide whether to go on with their studies by attending a Ph.D. in life sciences – the PhD in Molecular Biology at UniSR is in fact one of the possible path to take – or to apply directly their expertise to science-based careers, such as lab management, research administration, research funding (both in government or charities) or intellectual property (patent consultants, strategic planning in biotech industries).
Admission is based on an admission test, deadline for application varies for EU and NON-EU students. Contact us for more information.
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnological Research in Medicine at UniSR I continued my studies by enrolling in the international master’s in Biotechnology and Medical Biology. Thanks to the partnership that UniSR has entered into with the MD Anderson Cancer Center, I am doing my master’s thesis Internship at MDACC focused on developing tissue-engineered models for prostate cancer. It is very rewarding to work in this research area and at one of the world’s leading cancer research centers.
