About the programme
This 2-Year Biotechnology and Medical Biology program from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University bridges theoretical knowledge to hands-on training in biological research, with an emphasis on biological processes underpinning human physiology and pathology.
Our Master Graduates will be exposed to an intensive training in the research laboratories of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute (or in linked institutions in Italy and abroad) culminating in the discussion of a written dissertation. Thus, our Master Graduates will be leading through a short yet complete research project; they will personally know what and why to look for, how to design a research project, how to generate and interpret data, and how to communicate their results to other researchers, through both oral and written presentations in English.
Our teaching methodology encourages students to take active responsibility for their own learning; “student-centered” and “self-directed” learning are the keywords for this approach. Thus, top-down learning is complemented by a bottom-up learning aiming at solving issues arising during the research project.
Teaching approches
The Biotechnology and Medical Biology program from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University aims to train researchers equipped with an in-depth knowledge of the most advanced biotechnological applications, providing them with the know-how needed to independently tackle the most pressing scientific issues in the basic and applied biomedical research sector.
The personality of the future researcher is built through the development of specialist skill sets and individual critical and analytical abilities. This is achieved through a novel approach to teaching, known as student-centred learning, that allows the student to take an active and responsible role.
The teaching staff favours this process by creating the necessary conditions, helping students to develop this individual approach to their studies (self-directed learning), involving and consulting them when devising courses and dealing with specific issues regarding professional practice as a stimulus to their learning process.
